Typically, texting is used to chat with friends or lovers. But in the past few years, texting has become a lot more than that. From the comfort of your cell phone, you can (with the push of a few buttons) do anything that a phone call, computer, internet or planner can do. The best part is, most of these cool little tips cost you nothing. So let's get going and start simplifying your life today.
1. Everyday Information
With the power of Google SMS you can now receive messages about directions, phone numbers, weather, movies times, sports, airline times, currency conversions, calculations, language translation, price look ups, dictionary references and more. Another great, free feature Google offers is an online calendar that you customize to your personal needs. After your calendar is set up, you can have it send you text message reminders whenever you want, check for upcoming events, or you can text message your calendar new events.
First you need to go to the Google Calender website and set up your account and configure your cell phone (it's very simple, just follow the mobile setup option). Then, all you need to do is set up your event and the time you want to be notified about it.
Once you have your calendar set up, you will start receiving reminders. You can also text GVENT (48368) to find out what's on your calendar. You do this by texting Gvent (48368) then the word "next" to find out your next event on the calendar, "day" to find out all events for that day and "nday" for tomorrow's events.

Have you ever worried if whether or not the food you are eating has too many or too little calories. Just text Diet1 (34381) with the major food chain and the item on the menu and the diet1 website will send you the nutritional value of that item - that includes calories, fat, carbs, and protein.

Can't wait for that package to arrive? Well, you still have to wait, but at least you can know when it's going to arrive. Just forward your delivery confirmation e-mail to the Track My Shipment website and you will receive updates on your package's shipment process.

Are you one of those people that don't have a handle on your financial life? Well, no need to worry. You can now go to the Quicken Online website and get all of your financial information funneled into one easy-to-understand format. It was only a matter of time before texting would be used to prevent crime. Now, anyone who has a phone can send a text message to help in the prevention of crime. Let's walk through a scenario to get the full effect of this crime prevention tool:
1st) You see or hear about an illegal act that's happening or going to happen.
2nd) You grab your cell phone and text 274637 (that spells CRIMES.) Then you send your message with your local agency ID number (agency ID numbers are available at the sms crime tips website) then push send.
