Amazing Texting Secrets and Tricks to Simplify Your Life

10 Amazing Texting Secrets and Tricks to Simplify Your Life
By Tyler Tray

Typically, texting is used to chat with friends or lovers. But in the past few years, texting has become a lot more than that. From the comfort of your cell phone, you can (with the push of a few buttons) do anything that a phone call, computer, internet or planner can do. The best part is, most of these cool little tips cost you nothing. So let's get going and start simplifying your life today.

1. Everyday Information

With the power of Google SMS you can now receive messages about directions, phone numbers, weather, movies times, sports, airline times, currency conversions, calculations, language translation, price look ups, dictionary references and more. All you need to do is text googl (46645) and a few words for directing what you want and voila! It's sent right to your phone with no charge from Google. For more information about what Google SMS has to offer and instructions on how to use this cool program, go to textingadvice . com - they've posted several of my articles... look for the one titled "Google SMS." It explains in greater detail exactly how to use Google SMS and it will simplify your life the second you learn what it can do for you.

2. Receive automatic text message alerts from your online calendar

Another great, free feature Google offers is an online calendar that you customize to your personal needs. After your calendar is set up, you can have it send you text message reminders whenever you want, check for upcoming events, or you can text message your calendar new events.

First you need to go to the Google Calender website and set up your account and configure your cell phone (it's very simple, just follow the mobile setup option). Then, all you need to do is set up your event and the time you want to be notified about it.

Once you have your calendar set up, you will start receiving reminders. You can also text GVENT (48368) to find out what's on your calendar. You do this by texting Gvent (48368) then the word "next" to find out your next event on the calendar, "day" to find out all events for that day and "nday" for tomorrow's events.

Hooray! Now you won't miss a credit card bill or your best friend's wedding.

3. Track Calories

Have you ever worried if whether or not the food you are eating has too many or too little calories. Just text Diet1 (34381) with the major food chain and the item on the menu and the diet1 website will send you the nutritional value of that item - that includes calories, fat, carbs, and protein.

4. Track My Packages

Can't wait for that package to arrive? Well, you still have to wait, but at least you can know when it's going to arrive. Just forward your delivery confirmation e-mail to the Track My Shipment website and you will receive updates on your package's shipment process.

5. Track My Cash Flow

Are you one of those people that don't have a handle on your financial life? Well, no need to worry. You can now go to the Quicken Online website and get all of your financial information funneled into one easy-to-understand format. You can set financial goals, spending text alerts, text message alerts when bills are due, and see what's going on with your financial life. Best of all, Quicken Online will send you your information through a text message whenever you want.

6. File your text messages

In the past it was very hard to save text messages onto your computer. Now, with Treasure My Text, you can archive and manage your text messages on the computer. It's free, just get an account and start uploading the text messages you can't afford to lose.

7. Send text messages with your voice

Have you pushed your thumbs off, or is your phone falling apart from so much button pushing? Well, not to worry. The Jott website has you covered. You simply set up a free account, then call their toll free number and talk into the phone. It will then convert your voice into text and send it to whomever you want. It also converts into emails, appointments, and more.

8. Stop crime with text messaging

It was only a matter of time before texting would be used to prevent crime. Now, anyone who has a phone can send a text message to help in the prevention of crime. Let's walk through a scenario to get the full effect of this crime prevention tool:

1st) You see or hear about an illegal act that's happening or going to happen.

2nd) You grab your cell phone and text 274637 (that spells CRIMES.) Then you send your message with your local agency ID number (agency ID numbers are available at the sms crime tips website) then push send. Example of message: "tip100 John Doe is dealing drugs in the back of Cainbridge Highschool."

3rd) You will receive a confirmation with your alias ID number to keep you anonymous and so they will know whom to reward.

9. Send text messages from the internet

Texting from the computer is a lot quicker than from your cell phone. And if you're on the computer, you might as well type it as opposed to texting it. Anyone can do it as long as they have an email account. You do it by just sending a message through your normal email account.

The secret lies in how you address the email. You'll need to find out which carrier the person you are texting has. For example: if it's Verizon, your email looks like this phonenumber@vtext.com. If it's T-mobile, it's phonenumber@tmomail.com. If you need more carrier's email addresses, go to the sms411 website and they have a whole list of them. Remember, after you send a text message from your phone you will keep receiving the messages from that email account.

10. Dating through text messaging

Text dating is one of the most convenient dating systems out there. It's very simple. All you do is: login to a text dating program, give them your information and the kind of mate you are looking for, and they'll start texting you people that you might match up with. Sounds simple? That's because it is!

The two sites that I recommend are Match and MeetMio. "Match" has taken their 15 million plus members and put a text dating interface to the website. "MeetMio" has no service fees, although contacting other users does cost money. Both are very simple to use. Simply make your account online and start getting available singles that meet your requirements texted to you. You can also just text message your location to 94810, such as the address, town and zip code you are in at that exact moment. Within minutes, you'll get profiles of other eligible singles in the same area. You can then review the locals one by one to see if they match your criteria. If interested, you can text the person directly and a fee will be charged to your cellular bill. When you find someone you'd like to chat with, a $0.99 USD is charged to your account, which covers 10 text messages between the two of you regardless of who sends how many messages.
